10 tips to avoid respiratory diseases

Low temperatures , sudden climate changes and environmental pollution are factors that contribute to the appearance of common winter illnesses: flu , cold , cough , otitis (ear infections), bronchitis and laryngitis ; as well as other chronic respiratory diseases that can cause death: pneumonia , asthma and chronic respiratory problems such as pneumonia.

The greatest risk of these diseases is not suffering from them but their easy spread among the population.
For this reason, the Mexican Federation of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (FESORMEX), calls on the entire country not to wait for any symptoms that indicate the onset of a respiratory disease .

10 prevention tips

1. Drink plenty of fluids continuously ; without considering industrial beverages as liquids (juices, soft drinks, etc.)

2. Protect yourself from the cold, dressing well . Do not take off your coat if you feel body heat. Take care of the use of heating.

3. Do not expose yourself to the cold (morning and night) with wet hair.

4. Eat a balanced diet , supported by vitamin supplements (C, D, Zinc, Omega3, Omega6) and minerals, which help create defenses in the body.

5. Eat foods that contain vitamin C : orange, grapefruit, lemons, carrot, papaya, and guava. This type of food has an effect on the respiratory mucosa allowing better local action of antibodies.

6. Do not carry out any type of physical exercise outdoors in the early hours of the morning and at nightfall.

7. Sleep an average of 8 hours a day .

8. Take minute breaks during work hours.

9. Wash hands with soap and hot water regularly both children and adults; mainly, when you have had contact with a sick person.

10. Cold symptoms usually last 1 to 2 weeks. If after this period your symptoms do not improve, it may be due to an allergy, a cold complication or for some other reason. The best option is to go to the doctor.
